Is it possible to install XFCE along with gnome or would that be a bad idea.

You can install as many WM's/desktop environments as you want, just pick the one to run at login.

so i downloaded hte xfce installer from the webpage and ranit, that wasnt a good idea. now my computer is all messed up.
