With LM7 (and I just checked, works in LM8 too) I found a method posted in an rss news feed I use to change the player for Youtube using Firefox. I think it used Mplayer, not sure. You had to do a few actions but it wasn't major. Videos were more solid then. In fact I wished all flash streaming sites could be sorted the same, like BBC iplayer.........

Install greasemonkey plugin from official source to firefox (open firefox, click Tools/Addons and search on greasemonkey) then go click on the script on this page and it sorts it:
