How to run something as service?

Post by javageek »

I am currently running Helena on my system and it is working flawlessly. I am an amateur radio op and am using the software xastir for APRS. Along with that I am running software called soundmodem which interfaces the radio and soundcard. I would like to run soundmodem as a service so that it is constantly running behind the scenes. Can someone give me some insight into this process?
