Google Chrome

Postby Senor Ding-Dong on Wed Jan 27, 2010 4:41 pm

Hi

I currently have Linux Mint alongside Windows Vista on my laptop and I wish to import my Google Chrome bookmarks from Vista into my recently installed Chrome in Mint. Is this possible?

The only options I got was to import the bookmarks from firefox in Mint.

Also, how do I find out where chrome has been installed on Mint? I used the "which" and "whereis" commands but nothing comes back, yet it works for firefox.

Thanks

In Linux the CLI commands are different.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/find

Open a terminal, type >> sudo find (app or file name)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

What I did for getting my old bookmarks from one OS to another, was:
Open my browser (in the original OS) click 'bookmarks' organize bookmarks > select all > export > save (to USB flashdrive)
In the new OS, open the browser > bookmarks > organize bookmarks > import > upload from the flashdrive

Maybe, not the CLI approved method, but it works.

Or you could just use XMarks, a bookmarks extension for Firefox and now Chrome. It stores a copy of your bookmarks online and you can then load them onto any computer you want.

Google now has a Bookmark sync option (possibly in Beta release or Dev release I can't remember which). This will sync your bookmarks with your gmail or google apps account so no matter which OS you use, or how many times you uninstall and reinstall, your bookmarks remain syncronized. Also helps when adding new bookmarks on one OS, they get added to the other OS at next sync.

I love that new feature, but as I said, you may need to install the Beta or Dev channel version of Chrome depending on your OS.
