No sound on Linux Mint?

Post by NicolasL »

Recently, I downloaded Linux Mint XFCE 7, and all in all, a great experience. However, the next day or so I noticed there was no sound on the start up as day one. I then learned it was not solely the start up, but the whole system.

I cannot seem to find any answer to this with Google, and I know that if I did find an answer it may not work for me.

I will provide any information you request (A bit noob to Linux, so telling me how to get the information would be nice  )

I thank you ahead of time for taking the time to read this, and I thank any one who further helps. :)

I guess we should start with checking to make sure your volume control is turned up. (It sounds dumb, but sometimes sound is just turned down low.) If you have the volume turned up, then maybe we can get an error message that'll help.

Try opening a terminal window and typing

mplayer /usr/share/sounds/linuxmint-login.wav

This will try to play the "login" music. Please copy and paste the result here.

Hi, Just installed Mint this week after getting fed up with problems on both Ubuntu and OpenSuse.
All is fine apart from the same/or similar problem to above.

I've installed all Codecs possible, but still no sound. I'm running a Soundblast sound card on a pci port.

Any ideas folks??
