I'd like to install Mint on my machine but I'm concerned about one particular thing - is it possible to successfully (with working WiFi) install Linux Mint on my laptop without going thru this: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiD ... y_No-Fluff

Thank you

That link is not relevant to the current release of mint as it was written for a much older version of ubuntu. To answer your question we would need to know the chipset your laptop wifi uses - this is not what the manufacturer writes on the label. See http://linux-wless.passys.nl/ for more details.

  I gave you that link so you could check it yourself? According to that it should work out of the box. No one can say it will definitely work.

I've checked the link that you provided but couldn't find the exact same driver version.

Thanks for your help

BTW: how strong is that "should work" - 50%? more? :-]

i have 3 different machines with intel wireless cards, one 2200, second 3945 and third 4965. they all work ootb using the kernel drivers.
but that's for karmic based distro's... feisty i'm not sure, you may have to patch... but why would you want to install a feisty based distro? it's really old...

No, I don't want to install feisty based distro - I want to install Linux Mint 8 KDE.
I've found that link on one of the Ubuntu forums and I thought is relevant.
I have tried to install Ubuntu and Mandriva on my laptop in the past and I always had a problem with WiFi drivers compatibility.
That's why I want to know is this Linux distribution is compatible with my laptop (WiFi card particularly).
