How to change screen Color deep to 32 Bits with a Intel 4500

Post by mariorminor »

Hi,

I am new using Linux Mint, I hope you could help me out with this...

I just installed Linux Mint 8/64Bits on my Dell Latitude E400 that has a build in Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD video card. The video screen is working fine but I want to change color deep from 24 to 32 Bits. I cannot find where to change this, Does somebody could tell me where to change video color deep?

The reason of doing this is because I am using Virtual Box and when I want to start a Windows 7 virtual machine I receive the following message...

“The virtual Machine is optimized to work in 32 bit color mode but virtual display is currently set to 24 bit”

Thanks

From man xorg.conf:
Depth depth
This entry specifies what colour depth the Display subsection is
to be used for. This entry is usually specified, but it may be
omitted to create a match-all Display subsection or when wishing
to match only against the FbBpp parameter. The range of depth
values that are allowed depends on the driver. Most drivers
support 8, 15, 16 and 24. Some also support 1 and/or 4, and
some may support other values (like 30). Note: depth means the
number of bits in a pixel that are actually used to determine
the pixel colour. 32 is not a valid depth value. Most hardware
that uses 32 bits per pixel only uses 24 of them to hold the
colour information, which means that the colour depth is 24, not
32.
So there is no "32 bit" color depth.

It's complaining that the 'virtual display' (virtual machine) is set to 24-bit, so just Install Guest Additions and you should be able to change the depth to 32-Bit inside Windows 7.
