im using mint 7 i think and im on the xfce version since im very short on space.. have given only 3 GB to linux partition..
so yesterday i applied all updates and when it was done it had taken up 400mb... n4 the update 1GB was free.. now 600MB is free..
i followed all the steps mentioned here: http://hubpages.com/hub/How-to-Clean-Up ... stallation
but didnt do any good..
any help would be appreciated

Why did you use such a small amount for the install?
That is the lowest you should be able to install Linux Mint Xfce CE.
To clean packages off the hard drive run this in terminal
