Windows and Mint are different systems. Windows programs will not run in Mint or any Linux distribution without special assistance.

In most cases you will not find the same program in Linux that you used in Windows. What you need to do is find equivalent Linux programs. A good place to start is right here:

http://www.linuxalt.com/

This is a listing of most of the popular Windows programs and the Linux alternatives. Find the progams that work best for you and install them in place of the unusable Windows programs you have now.

So, you are wanting Linux mint to operate and use the same programs you now use in Windows
--won't happen without a kludge: Ask yourself the other question, how do I run a Linux or OSS (Open Source Software) program on a windows OS..
  • Wine
  • Commercial wine
    Codeweavers, Cedega
  • A VM
    Vmware, virtualbox
--where you install your windows OS as a guest OS on the host (LInux), or the reverse, if you are using windows, as the main dish
  • These are the options
--or if you use Linux, as indicated by "Aging Technogeek" , there are software equivalences available; the most obvious for office people is OpenOffice
