Netflix

Post by abg218 »

Hey, I've been using Netflix for a while and just came over to linux to find out that unless you're using windows or a mac, you cannot stream movies from netflix to watch them instantly. Is there any way around this?

abg218,

I am not aware of any work-arounds. Have you contacted Netflix with a request to include a Linux option? Every contact like that just might help.

Ever considered using IE6 in Wine to connect to Netflix? That might work. Or you might run Virtualbox, run XP in Virtualbox, run a web browser in IE, and see if that works.

Netflix does not support linux. You could try writing a nicely formatted email to Netflix.

I sent them an email requesting they consider supporting Linux. Or consider making their browser application platform independent, like the rest of the Web 2.0 apps.

Microsoft silverlight (Sl1 vs SL2) which they have for Linux also does not support Netflix, due to the DRM locks they apply

Ironically, Netflix does work on Linux. Just not the desktop linux you're using.

Those Netflix boxes that some people hook up to stream movies? Yeah, those run linux.
