Which version of Mint are you using? Installed or from the LiveCD? Are you trying to drag-and-drop applications from a file manager to the desktop?

It would be helpful if you provided some more information so we can help you. Folks here are really nice and enjoy helping! We just need a little more information on what you have, what you have done, and what you are trying to do.

I can offer one little hint though: Try RIGHT-clicking anywhere on the desktop and it will bring up a menu of applications and options to choose from.

Try dragging Firefox from the mintMenu (Menu > Internet > Firefox - grab and drag to desktop).

Alternatively, right click on the desktop and select "Create Launcher". Type in a name (whatever you want), Firefox is a good choice. Type: firefox in the command line, hit ok.
