Track pad doesn't respond to mouse settings on Dell D600

The settings work fine on the joystick mouse on the keyboard as this laptop has two different pointer systems. I can't get the cursor to move faster with the trackpad, but the joystick responds nicely. Is there a fix for this problem?

I'm afraid they will have to share settings. I've seen somewhere that there is a method to let them have separate settings, but I have not found that method

The problem is that I cannot adjust the track pad pointer at all. It continues to be too slow for my liking regardless off where the mouse settings are adjusted to. The joystick on the other hand, responds normally to the the changes made to the mouse settings. I don't mind that they work in parallel, but would like to speed up the track pad.

So regardless of how you change "Mouse settings" in the control center it's too slow?
There is a tool called qsynaptics (ksynaptics in KDE) that you might want to try - and where do you find this? In synaptic!

Ya, it's hard to explain, but easy to demonstrate. I'll check out synaptics. Funny thing is that right after I posted that last message, the cursor sped up, but only for a few seconds!

Thanks for the software suggestion. After installing the qsnaptics package I tried typing in qsnaptics into the terminal and this came up. So far no difference in the trackpad settings. Is there some other way to launch the app? Any clues what to try? It says to install the snaptics touchpad driver. How do I install that driver?

Search for "synaptics" in synaptic
gsynaptic is a GUI tool for settings, which I think helps you overcome the memory error and one synaptics driver is already installed in my desktop I think it's the other that's needed - i.e. install both

Hey, that worked! The synaptics manager would not let me load both g and q synaptics so I loaded the other along with all the other selections that came up under the search for "synaptics". With a reboot, now the dual pointer system is working perfectly with response on both of the pointers equally well. Thank you so much for your help. I was thinking of calling Dell support since my laptop is still covered under warranty. I'm curious as to what they would say when given a support question about Linux in general. Thanks again!
