whats the next step

Ok, I have been trying to get this working for some time, I though that maybe a fresh start would help relieve some frustration.

I'm running an IBM t40.
My computer will detect all networks in range and connect to non-secure networks. My home network has WEP security and my computer will not connect. It will begin to connect but fail every time. I have tried typing retyping connecting reconnecting in every combination. I thought maybe the problem could be the driver, and this may still be the issue, but after hours of work I still have not managed to find the .inf file in windows xp necessary for the use of ndiswrapper so I am calling that a dead end. ( I have downloaded the driver installer from the hardware provider, and have tryed installing ever .inf in the unpacked .exe to no avail, also I have also searched all over windows xp for some sign of this .inf file but no win here either) Where do I start, here is my mintwifi output, I am currently connected to a non-secure public network.
PS. This problem existed when I first installed ubunto in its 6.10 incarnation. When I installed the beta 7.0 version It worked perfectly. A few weeks ago I wanted to try kde mint linux, to see what its like and this problem started. Even reinstalling ubunto feisty has not fixed this problem. I have seen others with this problem on the ubunto message board but no one ever responds.
