Canon MP540 printer installation.
I have a Canon MP540 printer, which I am having problems getting to work. I have downloaded from the Canon site Debian driver files MP540_debian-driver.tar, but do not know what to do to install them.
I look forward to getting some help. BTW I am a Mint newbie.

Re: Canon MP540 printer installation.
extract the .tar to a working folder, you may wind up with 2 folders in side the main, then look for the .deb files, right click and open with Gdeb installer.
For future reference most .tar , .tar.gz packages are builds, and the INSTALL or README notes usually have this info

Re: Canon MP540 printer installation.
I've tried this but just get a message about missing dependencies
Re: Canon MP540 printer installation.
what dependancies are you missing, you can probably apt-get them or find them in synaptic
Re: Canon MP540 printer installation.
I am unable to do this at the moment. Will try later and come back to you.
Re: Canon MP540 printer installation.
Hi I have had another go at installing. The Scangear part loaded ok, but when I tried to install the common printer driver I got the message " cnijfilter -common depends on libcupsys 2 (>2-1.2.1) however package libcupsys2 is not installed.
What can i do know ?
Tried MP540 driver and got message Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: cnijfilter-common (>= 3.00)

Re: Canon MP540 printer installation.
When you see "depends on" open synaptic and put the dependency in the search bar, in this case libcupsys, and you will see a package or app that has it as a dependency and you can install it that way.britrail wrote:Hi I have had another go at installing. vincent@Vincent-laptop ~ $ apt search libcupsys2
v libcupsys2 -
v libcupsys2-dev -
Apparently there is, actually. Just type in the following in a terminal:

Re: Canon MP540 printer installation.
Posted same query in Ubuntu forum and got this message reply. The thread leads to a very complicated, to me, solution.
Here is the message that has just been posted:
***************
Libcupsys2 has been superceded by libcup2 which is causing your problems.
Try the following thread - hope it helps

Re: Canon MP540 printer installation.
If you go to the Canon site in Austrailia (http://support-au.canon.com.au/P/search ... u=Download), you can find the .deb drivers. Then it's easy.
Re: Canon MP540 printer installation.
Finally solved my problem with this solution.
