Enabling Emerald themes: What is WRONG with me? [SOLVED]

Post by SlayBeau »

I swear, Mint is making me feel dumber and dumber.

I want to install/use some themes. I have found the Emerald Themer (installed), changed the CompizConfig settings and followed the directions posted here:
http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... es#p259057

and here:
http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... es#p259057

It seems that with Emerald installed, once I click on a theme it should be enables. But it isn't. I have even downloaded a couple of new themes from here:

http://compiz-themes.org/index.php?xcontentmode=103

And the compiz wiki is useless: http://wiki.compiz.org/EmeraldThemeManager

I have searched forums and the web and found what amounts to many iterations of the websites listed above. And none of that is working. Can somebody please enlighten me? I'm sure I am missing something obvious.

Do you have Fusion Icon installed? (I think it's...

Code: Select all

apt install fusion-icon
... but I'm not 100% certain.)
If you don't, just look for it in Synaptic. Once it's installed, when you launch it, it'll give you a new icon in the systray. If you right-click on it, go look for a sub-menu named Window manager, or decoration, something like that. If you made it to the correct menu, you'll find Emerald listed, along with Gtk (or Metacity, it was a while since I did it myself). Click it and be merry!
(Or you could of course run the command 'emerald --replace' for the same result, but I'd recommend the Fusion Icon-method.)

OK, that definitely did something. The fusion icon is now on the systray, and I can change between Emerald and KDE4 decorators and Compiz, Metcity and Xfwm windows managers. So I certainly have stuff to play with now, and the theme is changing (?), so we'll call this solved. Temporarily glitchy, but solved.

Thanks
