Sound problems on Toshiba NB200 netbook

I have Mint 8 on a Toshiba NB 200 netbook.
Sound levels are turned up but there is no output from speakers or headphones.
I suspect a driver problem but dont know what to do about it.
I have read several posts from others experiencing similar problems but none of the solutions offerred has helped.
Everything else seems to be working fine.
Is anyone able to help with this one?

In a terminal, type:

Try turning everything up, logout and log back in, and play any audio file. If that doesn't work, we need more info to troubleshoot the problem. Type the following 2 commands in a terminal and copy & paste the output of these commands here.
