XBMC installation

Postby mahutchinson on Tue Apr 27, 2010 1:21 pm

I am trying to install XBMC in Mint but can't get past this bit:-

"Adding the XBMC SVN Repo Installer

In Ubuntu the SVN Repositories are not automatically added. You must add them manually.

* First, download the SVN Repo Installer from:
* http://xbmc-addons.googlecode.com/svn/p ... taller.zip
* Extract it to the ~/.xbmc/plugins/programs directory.
* Select XBMC Media Center: Applications -> Sound & Video -> XBMC Media Center
* Scroll down to Programs.
* Select program plugins.
* Select SVN Repo Installer
* Select xbmc-addons
* Select plugins
* Choose the plugins that you want to add (i.e., videos) "

Can anyone explain how to extract the zip file into this directory and where this specific directory is located ?

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

To add, ~/.xbmc/plugins/programs is located in your home folder, i.e., /home/your_username/.xbmc/plugins/programs.
"~/" is shorthand for your home folder. Since the .xmbc folder is prefixed with a ".", it means it is a hidden folder; to view hidden folders in the filemanager, press Ctrl+H.

ikey mentioned the terminal way to unzip - which is the quickest way to do it, but in case you prefer using programs instead:

You can also either right-click the SVN_Repo_Installer.zip and hit "Extract here", and move the folder yourself to ~/.xbmc/plugins/programs, or open the zip file with Archive Manager (double-click the zip) and hit the extract button and choose the directory to extract to.

Thanks for the answer but right clicking does not give any "extract here" option and archive manager tells me that the file type is unsupported. This is why I am a bit confused.

Make sure the packages zip and unzip are installed in Package Manager.

Yes they were, and I reinstalled them again and also tried installing PK7zip as well but can't see either app in the main menus or right click menus.
