login (auth) problems with Gnome

Post by benvolio »

Hello!

Sorry, if it's duplicate, I found no similar themes.

Linux Mint 8 Helena, Gnome. Clean install from LiveCD.

Can't login and start Gnome session from the first attempt (often, almost every time), sometimes it takes 2-9 attempts to enter login/password to login into Gnome and finally see the desktop.
Same time, shell sessions opened without any troubles.

Cut from /var/log/daemon.log:

Re: login (auth) problems with Gnome

See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/475867. Basically the suggestion here is to turn of compiz - set Appearance | Visual Effects to none.
[Edit] your original post and add [SOLVED] once your question is resolved.

Mystical situation!

I changed the Gnome visual effects settings from 'none' to 'standard' and it solved the problem! I logged automatically several times! Pfff..
But when I changed them back to 'none' the problem appeared again.
