Linux Mint 8 64-bit (Gnome and KDE) fail to recognize the Huawei Internet Key k4505 as a usb modem.
I ask if the bug is fixed in upcoming Linux Mint 9, without searching around the world for the appropriate drivers.

Re: Internet Key Huawei
Does this USB Modem have a mini-memory card as part of it's features?
If it does, then the OS will read the USB as an external memory drive first.
You just need to install "usb_modeswitch" from the Synaptic Manager. It tells the computer, what to do with this USB ... it should then, 'recognize' the Modem aspect.
Just a few 'clicks' and it's done. I use 3 different USB Modems.
The Ubuntu Forums has a lot of great topic threads on this subject ... you might check them out. >> Do a search ... http/ubuntuforums.org
And yes, the new Mint-9 LTS should already have the usb_modeswitch application pre-installed. Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid does.

Ale,
Sometimes plugging the USB modem in first and then switching the computer on solves this sort of problem.
