I have Mint 5 loaded on my laptop, running just fine. I downloaded Mint 8 ISO and burned it to CD. When I boot from the CD it get the Automatic boot screen, which does nothing if left alone. I have tried hitting Enter and choosing one of the options, but again nothing happens. I am running 5 on an Acer TravelMate 280 with 2GB RAM, 40 GB HD, and still get nowhere. Any ideas or suggestions???
I have been running 5 for about three weeks now and really like the features and would like to upgrade to 8 if possible. I really don't want to run that other stuff (Windows) if necessary. HELP PLEASE.
Thanks

Re: LiveCD Installations
Try burning the iso image again. You may also want to try installing from a flash drive if your BIOS supports it.
Re: LiveCD Installations
To make an installation USB drive, on your current linux mint install the usb-creator tool by running this code:
Then from mint menu (the main menu) locate the app under 'administration'.
Now, you can use either a CD or an iso image to create the startup usb.
Have fun.
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install usb-creator
Now, you can use either a CD or an iso image to create the startup usb.

Re: LiveCD Installations
I have burned the ISO twice on two different machines with the same results. The LiveCD starts to certain point and then goes no further. I have had to back to Mint 5 and Windows 7 on a dual-boot system just to get anything done. Any other ideas??

Did you validate the MD5 hash on the ISO before you burned it? Could be a corrupt image.repease wrote:Any other ideas??
