Re: how do i grub
snodgrss1984,
I will go through the process step by step. This is the procedure I used when I was starting out in Linux to set up my first dual boots. It has always worked for me. Using this procedure, you do not have to set up any partitions ahead of time. This will be done during the installation.
1. Run the Windows Disk Cleaner to get rid of as much garbage as possible.
2. Defrag Windows XP at least twice. Three times is better. You are looking not just to defragment Windows but to compress it as much as possible to the beginning of the hard drive.
3. Place the Mint live CD in the CD-ROM drive and boot to the Mint desktop.
4. Play around with things to see if everything works. Remember, Mint is running from the CD and not the hard drive so it will be slow.
5. Double click on the "Install Linux Mint" icon to start the installation.
6. Take the defaults on the first three pages unless you need a different language or keyboard layout.
7. This is where it can get interesting - partitioning. For a first time installation, I suggest using the first option "Install Mint side-by-side with Windows, Choosing Which to Use at Boot"
8. You will see a tubelike item on the screen with the left end one color and the right end another color. This represents your hard drive. The left side is Windows and the right side is what Mint wants to use. (Mint is greedy, it will take all unused space if you let it.) There should be a white line between the two colored sections of the drive. Left click on the white line, hold the mouse button down, and drag the divider to where ever you want it. On a 60GB drive. a good proportion is 40GB for Windows and 20 GB for Mint. If there is not 20 GB available, Mint will install on as little as 5-10 GB, but there will not be much room for additions.
9. Once you have the divider where you want it, click "Forward" to continue the installation process.
10. Fill in your name, user name (if different), password, and computer name (again, if different from default). At the bottom of the page, choose whether to log in automatically or require password to log in. Next page
11. If the installer offers the opportunity, choose whether or not you want to migrate information (such as Firefox bookmarks) from Windows. Next page
12. Check the information on this page to be sure it is all correct, then click "Forward" and the real installation begins. Just sit back and watch. It is all automatic from here.

Hmmm, thought that name looked familiar...Biker wrote:I was curious and plugged in the OPs handle into Google to see what would pop up.
For someone who's been messing with Linux for over 2 years (found some posts in the Fedora forums dating back to 2008), the OP hasn't learned much in those 2 years. I really have to wonder if he's just posting for the sake of posting, or he's just installing Linux distro's just for the hell of it. I would think after 2 years of playing with various distributions, partitioning would be second nature by now.
Re: how do i grub

This an important historical flag from the revolutionary period of the United States. The link above in an educational read. Enjoy.

snodgrss1984, until you provide the information that has been requested repeatedly throughout this thread, you're on your own. You ignore requests for information, continue crying about how you want to do something, and have yet to provide any useful information in order for us to assist you.
A simple search on Google brings up a plethora of information regarding multi-booting systems. I'd suggest you start with that since you're unable to comply with simple requests in this forum.

You must be about 12 years old, you do not process information so well.snodgrss1984 wrote:thats cool snakes are communist so anyways dont need to have a attitude fedora the information you need i dont have so i made a new thread i am going to fix grub now
I believe you are referring to the Gadsden flag here? If you were curious enough to ask why did you not read the link atovinov so kindly provided you. The Gadsden flag never represented communism, quite the opposite actually. Which is why it is now being used against this socialist government we now have.
I will leave you to further research, both in politics and with Grub. I do not know why you would think I have an attitude since I posted a single post in this thread that really had nothing to do with you, but that is okay. Maybe you are getting me confused with Biker. He is right, if you cannot tell us what we need we cannot help you.Beginning in 2009, the flag became a popular display by protesters who are members of the Tea Party movement. It was also seen being displayed by members of congress on March 20 and 21, 2010 at Tea Party rallies.
Re: how do i grub
umm ok tea party is a bunch of losers and your obviously the one who is 12 i said that is against communism you need to relax your even starting war on a thread in linux
Re: how do i grub
Are you American? Or is English your second language?
How am I starting a war? First you are implying that I am a communist and now i am just a loser! What have I said against you? Other than you sound like a 12 year old. That impression is only growing stronger!
