It's one of those random glitches that happen every now and then. I encountered them too. Make sure you close all open applications. Hit Ctrl+Alt+Backspace to reset the X server and back to the log-in screen. If you still get the error message upon logging in, restart your computer.

Ok, I'm just wondering if you create a new panel, add/move items from the old to the new panel, add the Mint menu as well and delete the old one? That might help.

Later versions of mint (nee Ubuntu) have removed the default action of ctrl alt backspace to kill the current desktop sesssion

First more context/data, which mint, which desktop environment ??
--read the forum notes..

--lots of responses, various Gnome applications, launchpad bugs etc..

So Gnome:Mintmenu has a problem and the above didn't work, then try

Reinstall mintmenu, its in the repositories, all you need is the command line an Internet connection or a terminal within the desktop

In the terminal, check
  • sudo apt-get update
  • sudo apt-get upgrade
--are there any upgrades you are missing..
  • apt search mintmenu
p mintmenu - Advanced Gnome menu
    --is mintmenu available to you
  • sudo apt-get install mintmenu
Whereis mintmenu
    locate mintmenu
    /usr/share/linuxmint/locale/af/LC_MESSAGES/mintmenu.mo
    /usr/share/linuxmint/locale/am/LC_MESSAGES/mintmenu.mo
    /usr/share/mint-lxde/images/mintmenu.png
--I am using lxde mint9, yours may be different..

I don't know about anyone else, but I don't see any complete answers to questions being asked, did you even read the forum rules yet and see which types of data/context might help you, if you want help ?

That's nice: I think you would be better off doing some searching/researching and getting back to us with what you have found and are attempting..
--rather than say, nothing anyone suggests works..that, I am afraid will either get you OK try this, or this or this, what happened
Or Goodbye,, until you start answering some of your own issues..

Nobody on earth can read your mind, or determine exactly how to possibly help with zero data being provided by yourself..

OK, I'll try just one time..

I had the same problem along with a few other errors when I installed Mint 9 and restarted. After restarting three times, it finally opened without the errors. Hope this helps.

Hi everybody. I 've faced the same problem just an hour ago. Three or four restarts and nothing happened.
Then, i completely removed mintmenu and reinstall it through Synaptics. After that, i restarted the laptop and Mintmenu was back.

PS: the nice thing is that MintMenu has "returned" with my own settings.
