Do the IntelDriver problems in Ubuntu 10.04 crop up in Mint?

Post by stephenmurdoch »

I've upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 twice in the last month and both times was hit hard by driver issues that make Ubuntu10.04 unsuitable for many Intel 855gm chip-sets (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1472054) and whilst it's possible 'fix' these problems (see here http://glasen-hardt.de/?p=568 and here http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-fix-ub ... artup.html), I'd rather not be messing around too much as I have found that these issues and their fixes lead to other problems further down the line. So I'm switching. It's either Mint or DreamLinux. Mint might be the best option but I'm worried about it being based on Ubuntu. I'm worried that the issues affecting the latest Ubuntu will crop up or surface in Mint, either in this latest release, or in a future one.

Are they likely to appear in a future release given that Mint is somewhat based on Ubuntu?

From what is to be read on the link you provided on the Ubuntu forum the person that got the live cd to work got the information from installing Mint via compatability mode.

Have you tried the live cd of Mint 9?

If you wish to save yourself some time run a site search for "Intel 855gm" and you will get lots of useful and relevant results. Good Luck
