Linux Mint Wont Stay on the Main Hard Drive
I installed mint to a seperate partition next to windows on my computer. I had my external unplugged at the time... It was actually plugged in at my neighbors. They where watching a movie I had on it; anyhow I plugged it back in went to bed woke up and it took out its own partition on the external... WHY?!
Please help me; thank you sooo much.

Re: Linux Mint Wont Stay on the Main Hard Drive
You haven't provided much info for us to work with (and frankly, I don't really understand your question). At the very least, a bunch of GParted screenshots showing the partitions on each of your drives would really help, as well as the output of the following terminal command (with both of your hard drives plugged in):
Code: Select all
sudo fdisk -l
Re: Linux Mint Wont Stay on the Main Hard Drive
OK I'll explain better then maybe it will make more sense. Remember I had my External Hard Drive unplugged when I installed Linux Mint.
I have windows 7 on one partition then I went inserted the Linux Mint disk installed it side by side to Windows 7. It all went great, as it still is right now, but when I plugged in my external hard drive it took out a partition and put it self onto it. I think it went from my C Drive(my main drive) to the external. It took out 170 gigs.
Does this make more sense golly I hope so lol.

Re: Linux Mint Wont Stay on the Main Hard Drive
That still doesn't make sense. Mint will not put itself on another hard drive just by plugging it into your computer. Now, I'll be able to understand what's going on with your computer if you can follow the instructions I posted in my previous post.

Re: Linux Mint Wont Stay on the Main Hard Drive
I see that Mint resides only on /dev/sda (the 320 GB hard drive of yours, your main one); /dev/sdb and /dev/sdg only contain single partitions with an NFTS filesystem, not the typical Linux filesystem (e.g. ext3/4, reiserFS). I still don't understand the problem you're facing. Some GParted screenshots would still really help.wwe9112 wrote: Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System

In a terminal, paste the following 2 commands one after the other:
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install gparted
gksudo gparted

You're confused.
Because you created new Linux partitions the drive letters in Windows have changed,
so now your external drive is not the same drive letter as before you installed Mint.
That does NOT mean Linux moved to a different drive.

Oh, that explains it. Hehe, just goes to show I need to improve my mind-reading skills.
