Getting Linux Mint 9 to connect to Fios

Post by juantendo8 »

Hi, I am completely new with linux and I just finished installing linux mint 9 main edition. I can't figure out for the life of me how to connect my wireless to the Fios internet that I have. It uses an actiontec router. I know that it works with windows and mac os and those automatically detect my connection. However, linux mint apparently doesn't and forces me to type out all the information myself. I have typed out the ssid and wep code, but it refuses to connect or even acknowledge a connection point. (I also don't use ndiswrapper or at least I don't think so. I have no idea what that even is.) This is making me feel like an idiot because I know that this should not be difficult but the fact remains that I can't do anything until I get a working wireless collection. Please help me resolve this issue so I can resume customizing my new OS.

I don't know if this is good or bad news but it actually might be difficult so there's no need to feel like an idiot just yet.

1. When you click the networking icon does it show any wireless networks that you could potentially connect to? (i.e. if you had the password)

2. In a terminal (you can find this in the menu) type the following command:

Code: Select all

inxi -N
To copy/paste from a terminal use ctrl+shift+C/V instead of the normal ctrl+C/V. Given you have no internet connection you may have to do something like paste to a new file on a usb stick and then copy from that usb stick to this forum once you are using an OS that can access the net. Once we have this information we can look to see if there are any known issues and solutions for your card.
