The output says you have dependency errors on the kernel and an update-grub error which is probably connected to the kernel issue. You need to sort these out in order to proceed. If you are not able to do this then maybe you should be asking yourself why you are trying to update at the command line in the first place rather than using mintupdate? Can I suggest you start by running synaptic and looking what kernels you actually have installed and what broken packages are showing?

I have a similar problem. Synaptic shows no broken packages. The problem arose after using mintupdate. In my case it finished updating with this error message:
E: linux-image-2.6.31-22-generic: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
E: linux-image-generic: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
E: linux-generic: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured

mintupdate returns "system is up to date" despite the reoccurring error message.
synaptic shows me no broken packages also.

I don't know if this will help but my kernel version jumped from 2.6.32-21 to 2.6.32-24. Maybe 23 was buggy! Worth refreshing your repositories in Synaptic and installing the '24' update?
