New Installation; no sound
I just instaalled mint 8 kde on a pc, not laptop, no sound on either firefox or opera. I did updates. Is this a common problem with new installations? ..nothing muted and i find no info on sound in user guide. There is the sound when mint boots up or shuts down.

Re: New Installation; no sound
There were problem with sound on mint 8, you'd be better trying mint 9 though the KDE version is not released yet.

Re: New Installation; no sound
Not sure about KDE, but I had the same problem w/ LM8 Gnome desktop. I just had to go into the sound settings and mess around until it worked. I think I chose "no amplifier."
