What browser are you using? The Mint dev's mess with Firefox so it redirects to a custom Mint Google page.
Also this might seem like a silly question but do you have http://www.google.com/ set as your home page?

What browser are you using, and what do you see when you go to http://www.google.com/? Does it redirect you?

Do you have it set to block javascript? They've got some kind of animation for the Google logo that, I could be wrong but I think is using javascript.

I'm using Chromium 6.0.472.53 from the beta PPA on x64 Mint GNOME and I have no problems with Google.com.

To make sure that you aren't blocking JavaScript first enter this into your browser chrome://extensions/ and make sure that you don't have any extensions installed that might interfere with JavaScript.

Next go to> options> under the hood> content settings> JavaScript and allow all sites to run JavaScript.

http://www.google will not get you to the google page in chrome. It will get you to a blank screen. Try http://www.google.com
