[SOLVED] new desktop installation - PC randomly sleeping

Post by oneMinite »

Hi all

I have a new install of Mint 9 on a desktop PC, it randomly switches to the command line displaying the message '**Checking battery status..' and then displays the message 'going to sleep' (or similar). The PC never stays on for longer than 10 minutes and I haven't figured out how to wake it up yet. I have disabled the sleep options in power management, but as there is no battery to check I am at a bit of a loss and would appreciate some advice on next steps.

It may be related to this post http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... te#p297216 but happens after boot has occurred successfully. I haven't found any other posts or known issues which may be related.

I have a new installation of Isadora Mint 9 on a:
P4 2.8G, 1.2GB Ram, 2 x 40GB HDD (Master & Slave by Cable Selection)

LSPCI specs are

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

OK so it looks like I have created a work around for my problem, although it has yet to be tested long term. I'll keep this post open until it has been verified over a couple of days. I commented out the content of the script '/etc/acpi/power.sh' which is started when the power is switched to battery. No battery on a desktop so it isn't required and I think the powersave function it was starting was putting my PC to sleep.

I have a surge protector, but it doesn't have a UPS from what I can see. A Crest Platinum from this company, www.crest.com.au
