[SOLVED] Compaq CQ50-107NR processor issue.

Post by Ask_The_Shack »

When I go to my system monitor it says that the processor that I have is a dual core QL-60, a 1.9 GHz processor, and that's correct. When I go to System Profiler (system information) and click on processor, it shows it as a 950.00Mhz. Could anyone explain this?

In all probability CPU Frequency Scaling is enabled. If so this will throttle back the CPUs when there is not a heavy load. More times than not my Dual Core AMD TL-50 registers as 800mHz instead of 1.6GHz. If you add the CPU Frequency Scaling Monitor to the panel you will be able to observe this as it happens. I have seen it in LMDE and Isadora on my laptop.

Yup, you're right! I used the frequency monitor, switched it to 1.9, and it didn't update it even after I hit refresh. I closed out the system profiler and benchmark, and it updated.

Man I feel kinda dumb. Thanks a bunch! :D

I'm really digging Linux Mint. I had the choice of this, Ubuntu and Kubuntu, at least that's what I narrowed it down to. I don't like Ubuntu that much (yeah, I know this is based on it) and Kubuntu, so I'm goina give Kubuntu a shot, but Mint isn't that bad.

The replacement media from Compaq for Windows Vista was about $17. I think I made the right choice by cheeping out and going with Linux. :P
