graphics driver - yes or no?
i have an hp pavilion dv7 notebook with a ATI mobility Radeon Premium Graphics card. would it be better to just go without the driver or get the propierity one (i think thats what its called) or are there any open source drivers that would work better w/ linux?

Re: graphics driver - yes or no?
Using the terminal output of inxi -G to get your specific card info, and then doing a google search of "your graphics card" and "mint" or "ubuntu" , might give you a heads up on anything . .
I'd trust the ones that show up in the Hardware Drivers program.

Re: graphics driver - yes or no?
thanks for the info, also just wondering, i've noticed a trend with a lot of hardware is that they'll have drivers or software for their own hardware but the hardware works fine regardless if you use the manuafacturers software etc, is it the same w/ graphics cards? basically will the card work if i dont install the ATI driver?
Re: graphics driver - yes or no?
sometimes the open-source driver that was first installed works best ! remember the old saying - if it ain't broke !
