Ebay Blackthorne install WIndows MDAC 2.7
Hi all.. I am trying to install the Ebay programme Blackthorne on Mint 9. Blackthorne starts to install from the download but then stops and says that MDAC 2.7 needs to be installed in order to install Blackthorne.. I have dowloaded & installed MDAC 2.7 and it said installed OK.. so when going back to install Blackthorne again i was expecting it to be OK but the same message came up about needing to install MDAC 2.7.. seems that it has not worked somewhere along the line.. can anybody help?? thanks.

Blackthorne is a Windows program. About the only way to run it in Linux is in Wine, if it is supported. You can check on support in the Wine APP Database here

The other app you downloaded, MDAC 2.7: the letters MDAC stand for "Microsoft Data Access Components".
Again it will not run in Linux directly.

Hi.. Thanks for that... yes i have opened the Blackthorne install file via WIne and it seems to be OK opening it and it looks like a normal Blackthrone install until it gets t the bit that says it needs the MDAC to continue install.. is running it in wine a different thing to open download file via wine? thanks..Paul
PS. I have just checked in your link.. yes Blackthorne is listed as an app.. was does that mean ...? is there something else that i am missing.. i dont really understand about wine other than i found it was able to open the Blackthorne exe. file that was downloaded and wouldn't open without it.. is wine just like a zip opener or is it some kin of programme that i need to run in order to use /install blackthorne ??

But i don't think that the program itself works after you install, if the app is rated as "garbage" it means that it doesn't work...

It is said there that installation works after you install winetricks:Installation will error out if you don't have .NET Framework 2.0 and MDAC 2.7 installed. You can install both of these via winetricks and installation will work. I used winetricks corefonts dotnet20 and winetricks mdac27 mdac28. These can probably be combined.
