Software Installation

Postby TheKid7 on Sun Oct 28, 2007 10:02 pm

I would like to install Firestarter firewall. After "Marking" for installation and choosing "Apply" I get a message similar to:

XXX packages will be held back and not upgraded, X new packages will be installed.

I have not installed yet do to not knowing what the message means?

What does the above message mean? Does it mean I cannot get upgrades for "some" other software later?

I noticed the same type of message for Audacity & VLCMedia Player.

Thank you.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Welcome to Mint TheKid7
This is a message you will receive now and then
I means that of all the packages Firestarter needs some are already in your computer in the right version, so they will (obviously) not be changed. The other packages will be installed (and/or changed)
It has nothing to do with getting updates later as you see
Good question though

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it
