Mint LXDE 10 automatic login? SOLVED

Postby al.adab on Tue Feb 22, 2011 12:01 pm

hello, just come back to Mint :)

I can't set Mint to log in automatically, for some reason...

Menu>Preferences>Users&Groups>Password (change to) "not asked on login" didn't help.

Neither did
viewtopic.php?f=90&t=65964&p=380992&hilit=automatic+login#p380992
("dgod" is nowhere in the file, so don't know what else I should replace with my username...I tried to replace "base" but it didn't work").

Can you please help?

To log in automatically in Mint 10 LXDE, open a terminal and type

Code: Select all
 sudo leafpad /etc/xdg/lxdm/lxdm.conf

enter your password and, when the file opens, change the first two lines from this

Code: Select all
#autologin=mint
#session=/usr/bin/startmintlxde

to this

Code: Select all
autologin=john
session=/usr/bin/startmintlxde

Replace "john" with your user name.

Save the changed file and close the window and the terminal. You should now be set to log in automatically.

Sorry that I'm writing here. But your method doesn't work for me!
I have installed linux mint lxde version today with all the updates...
Here is my lxdm.conf file:
Code: Select all
[base]
autologin=user
session=/usr/bin/startmintlxde
# numlock=0
greeter=/usr/lib/lxdm/lxdm-greeter-gtk

last_session=mint-lxde.desktop

last_lang=

[server]
# arg=/usr/bin/X -nr vt1

[display]
gtk_theme=Mint-X-Metal
bg=/usr/share/backgrounds/linuxmint-julia/emvalibe_silver.jpg
bottom_pane=1
lang=1
theme=Mint

[input]

user is my username :)

It works for me if I edit this file instead: /etc/lxdm/default.conf

That file is linked to two others:
/etc/alternatives/lxdm.conf
/etc/xdg/lxdm/live.conf
Why don't you allow guest posts? Do you have any idea how much time it takes to register (which requires JS)?
