Curious... perhaps the Gutsy package isn't in the repositories yet, because my dear old Cassandra's repositories have it...

Thunderbird has its own built in spam filter which is pretty efficient. In the beginning you have to change it's decision sometimes but after a while it gets really efficient.
I used to get several hundred spam mail daily and T-bird only sorted a few wrong (I think
because in the end I never checked the mail sorted as spam)

Ah - it's been developed since I last looked.
If you tick "Trust spam headers from" and then select either Spampal or Spamassasin it (obviously) uses these
Else it is using its own mechanism, and a very reliable one as I stated
I checked the Thunderbird help and it seems that this "Spampal option" is using a file in the Thunderbird program folder that it probably downloads from Spampal/Spamassasin. The text is not quite clear on that
