I suggest you give "Envy" a try. It comes installed with Mint by default & should install Nvidia drivers & Nvidia control panel.

i would try to install by going into a terminal by doing the following:-

ctl-alt-f2

Log on to your normal user account

then type in sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop

then you need to go to where you have downloaded the nvidia file for example

cd /home/adrian

or if you have downloaded it on the desktop for example

cd /home/adrian/Desktop

then type

sudo sh Nvidia-Linux-x86-100.14-19-pkg1.run (make sure the syntax is correct especially capitals on (Nvidia-Linux)
