Need instructions to get wicd onto gnome edition

Postby unreal223 on Fri Nov 23, 2007 10:33 pm

How can I get wicd on daryana? I cant use network manager because it doesn't work with my card but wicd on xfce edition does(but I dont like xfce.)

I tried some instructions on the ubuntu forum but as soon as I ran the command to dumb NM I got lots of error messages and no internet connection. So I'm now on a fresh install of daryana waiting for some help! :)

I dont even see wicd listed in the package manager thing so I really need simple step by step instructions on how to get wicd installed(same version that is in xfce edition)

Add this to your /etc/apt/sources.list
Code: Select all
##  Wicd Updates
deb http://wicd.longren.org gutsy extras

It may be easier to do the rest from Synaptic (Package Manager)
Open Synaptic and click Refresh (the two circular green arrows)
Then search for wicd and install it and use it
I think you should uninstall Network Manager before you use wicd, it's always possible to reinstall

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it
