What is an application I can use to be able to use windows and linux together?

You can install Windows in a virtual machine using Virtualbox, that will run both at the same time.
Otherwise, you can install a compatibility layer called Wine (available via Package Manager) - this will allow you to install certain Windows applications. Check the Wine website for details on specific apps -> http://appdb.winehq.org/

The other thing you may wish to consider would be dual booting, having both Linux and Windows on the same computer.
