Here's a quick and easy question on mint 10 julia does this version come with its own .bashrc and .bash_profile start up files?

Not by default. You can create it if you wish.
There is a global configuration file you could also edit, /etc/bash.bashrc

cool, well that brings up another question then, every time I create a .bashrc or .bash_profile file I for some reason I lose the ability to use the command line. It comes up but it dosent display the home directory sign ~ and it dosent display my computers name, the only thing I get is a white background. I am thinking that I am just overiding my oringal files that came with the insall.
