STANDBY MODE DONT WORK

i have just started on Mint and its working mostly fine, however when it goes onto standby/ closing the laptop lid it comes back with a black screen with the word Linu_ or something similar. can anybody help me

This is among the hardest to find a solution to.
Could you tell us what hardware you have?
Model of laptop and the "content" as it's often hard to find out what's in there

Compaq Presario Laptop
Intel 1.8Ghz
512 RAM
80GB HDD
as i have only just got started on Mint, the stuff that came with it and one update is all that has been added
