8600GT in SLI

Hello! First time poster, long time user.

I'm writing because I'm having a bit of a problem with my graphics setup. I am currently using an older version of Mint (3.9, I believe), and I know I have had this problem before, but I don't know how to fix it. My graphics card setup is 2 XFX GeForce 8600 GT XXX Editions in SLI, and whenever I try to use the new live disc, X won't run. Even when I type "startx" from the command, it just dies. I have also tried to use envy on the LiveCD, but nothing seems to work. Any suggestions?

It does a little bit, but the problem I am having is during setup. Is there any other way to get it to work or a way to install from command line?
