What patented stuff are in Linux Mint?

Postby coolblue on Mon Jan 14, 2008 5:49 am

I just downloaded Mint Fluxbox as I have a low-end system.

Can anyone here give me a COMPLETE list of ALL the patented things that are
included in Mint (which are illegal in some countries)? I want to know this so that
I can remove them if I wish to do so, as I feel its against ethics.

I could have downloaded Mint Light edition but I have a low-end system so I needed Fluxbox.
And I also wanted to see how good Mint is. I had tried the Main edition once but it was VERY slow
on my hardware so I wanna see how this Fluxbox edition goes...

Thanks for your help and thanks for Linux Mint :)

With warm regards....

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I think it is just audio and video formats, mp3, DivX, wmv etc. I am sure someone could give you a complete list though...

I don't think anyone is going to whip up such a list for you. If you're ethically opposed to using your computer for basic things for which it was intended, then simply use the "Light" variant. :-)

Only Main edition is comes in light, Fluxbox does not... If you do not want to break any flawed patent laws, do not download it. I think the only thing that is illegal is to distribute it bundled with the distro, you can easily after install most of the patented components free of charge...
