Finally I Got my Distro!!

Postby runfrodorun on Fri Jan 18, 2008 5:01 pm

I just installed linux mint 4 and just love the look and feel of it. At first my wireless card did not work. So I just used and wireless card. Then the built-in wireless card got automatically detected.
Hey this could be a tip for us newbies...

My wireless did not get detected at all. After much messing...I finally said...it's ok...I will just use my old wireless card. So me place the wireless card in the slot....Mint detected it...together with my built-in wireless. Cool...If only Linux mint was a woman, I'd marry it :D

Welcome to the world of freedom :)
Also, if it fails at first attempt it does not mean that the wireless card is not supported, but it might mean you need to download firmware or proprietary driver, or that basically the driver is not bundled with the distro for whatever reason...

Freedom Indeed Guys,
I am trying to totally wipe the name of windows out of my home!! :D On my desktop I have dual boot...but deep in my heart I have this evil intention to wipe it out entirely...Whats holding me?..sadly some games which is windows only.
You know this is where most Linux users get cornered, such as myself. Wine is cool but yeah it has its own thing going. Tried to make Sketchup work but no-go.
But I am positive...switched my wifes laptop too...my desktop...and I have an older PC which I wanna switch too, but I'd need a version that will not be so memory intensive.....Suggestions are very welcome

Thanks

Yeah, I have 3 machines running with Mint, even a 3-4 years old computer, and it runs OK! And for dual boot, I can live without games, I got a PS3 and wine runs fine for me, I got Fable working (or had it working, haven't had the time lately).
But nothing can replace the Mint feeling :)

Welcome indeed. This is a great forum where you can also learn a new vocabulary as in sudo, root and waf.
The latter of course 'wife acceptance factor'. Not necessarily mint related though
Enjoy!

Hi guys.

I'm also a newbie..

LinuxMint is the best distro I ever tried. Like to look, and like the feeling I get. :D

Tried many other distros but , I always return to LinuxMint, or ehhh Windows. :D
