Install with multiple partitions

I am attempting to install Linux Mint XFCE on a computer with four partitions already: one 1gb partition that I want for a swap, one 116gb partition that has XP installed and needs to stay, one 39gb partition that I have reformated and set as the root partition, and one backup 3gb partition for XP. How do I, in the installer, label the 1gb partition as the swap? If I can do that, I believe I can take care of the rest. I have some experience with Ubuntu, but not sure with this.

I'm assuming you chose manual partition?

just set the 1GB partition for formatting and choose swap.

Yeah I chose manual.

I have to format both the 39gb and the 1gb partition. I already have the 39gb mount point set up as root.

format the root partition (39GB set as /) to ext3

if i remember correctly "swap" is one of the choices in the "format type"
drop down box when you set it to format.

choose "swap" for the 1GB partition.

Actually, if you already had a swap partition it were no need to format it. The only partition you have to format when installing Mint is the root partition (with mount point /)

this is true.... but I don't think he had it as "swap" already...

If you want to hibernate the computer (supposing you can hibernate) then 2 GB swap is better.
