first boot problems

Postby aquachap on Sat Feb 02, 2008 8:54 am

Hi all

Completely new to Linux here and I really need some help.

I managed to install Daryna and it looked to be going well until I booted from the hard disk I have a multitude of scripts culminating with:

ALERT! /dev/disk/by-uuid/9256f847-e428-40b5-9d12-c4406ccf7bc8 does not exist. Dropping to a shell!

Through the scripts I have repaeated /iniy: /init : 146: modprobe: not found

Id love to get this working as I really need a file server and it looks great

Please Help

Try to replace in /etc/fstab the uuid by the normal device description.
You can do that with the CD. From this CD search for /etc/fstab on your hard disk and edit it.
Search for the device name of your hard drive. I suppose here that it is /dev/hda1. You can find yours with
Code: Select all
sudo fdisk -l

First copy fstab as backup :
Code: Select all
cd /dev/hda1/etc
sudo cp fstab fstabOLD

replace /dev/hda1 by the device you have your mint root on.
Code: Select all
sudo gedit /dev/hda1/etc/fstab

You will see something like this :
# /dev/sda2
UUID=e5a5e8db-9f58-4ff0-b225-123775c1b723 /media/sda2 ext3 defaults 0 2

Replace it by
# /dev/sda2
/dev/sda1 /media/sda2 ext3 defaults 0 2
