Boot problems: Using a grub boot floppy

As a precaution, hoping to circumvent other difficulties, I have read relevant parts of the Grub Manual and successfully produced a boot floppy.

This leaves me with a command line awaiting instructions about selecting a system to boot - there are options giving available commands, and a help file - but I couldn't discover how to proceed.

I can't find anything relevant in the Manual.

As usual, I shall be most grateful for advice or reference to other sources of information.

If you just want to boot Mint then these commands (at the GRUB prompt) usually do it:

root (hd0,1) #replace this (and root entry below) with your Mint partition
kernel /vmlinuz root=/dev/sda2 ro vga=791
boot


this is a very old tutorial but a good one
