I installed mint, but uninstalled because the network didn't work correctly. connecting to another PC running windows would work sometimes, and sometimes not. Sometimes it would ask for a password before connecting.

Another small problem was that we have a minolta di1600 printer, for which we can not find a linux driver... the server for the printer is windows.

Any suggestions?

With regard to the networking, if you change the line security=user to security = share in smbconf this will get past the password issue. The problem of intermittent connection is a samba problem. I got over this by installing smb4k from the repositories and using this to access my XP box. From XP to Mint has not been a problem.

Ref the printer how have you tried to install this in Mint?

Dell printers are usually just rebranded lexmark printers, which have notoriously poor linux support! (Or some else brand, not sure, the last part is correct though).
