no display on battery power **solved**

Firstly id like to say a big hello to everyone, im new to linux ( using for 2 days ) and i think im going to be using this forum quite a lot, anyway to the point i installed linux mint 4.0 a couple of days ago ( dual boot mint - Vista gateway laptop ), anyway its works perfectly apart from one little niggle, when i take the laptop off the mains (onto a FULL battery ) the display goes so dim its almost impossible to see it, how do i increase the display brightness, thanks in advance for any help
