Hi all,
I have successfully gotten everything working on my new laptop. Hurra for Mint good job everyone.

I have one thing hanging ;-} The graphics are not picked up correctly.
And I basically haven' t gotten the faintest as to how to get that done.

I went through the process og gedit xorg.conf file and setting it to the max that the card schould do 1280x800 in the vesa mode, now there is no listing in the controlcenter for sis, nor can I get it above the 800x600 resolution, so I am a bit careful not to just do something without the word of approval.

I wonder if there is someone who has already gone through this and found the real and functioning drivers. The RealTeK SIS page do not list the driver for any other than Windows XP and Vista, and the machine was delivered with this.

Here are the specs on the laptop:

There is a SiS driver in Synaptic (search for Xserver and scroll among the results)
If it covers your video system I don't know, but it should unless the chip is brand new.
Try it out and remove completely if it's a no go
Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it

Go to Administration > Screen and Graphics. There you can set your screen and your video card.

Other way is to use the following code in the terminal (but I wouldn't advise it at least as a first option)

Code: Select all
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

This code will reconfigure Screen, video Card, Keyboard and Mouse. (that did worked for me in Ubuntu Gutsy Edition when I was trying to configure my Nvidia Drivers and my Screen resolution.)
with a cup of Mint tea.

If no other driver than vesa is available you could reconfigure x till you die without success
