"Compiling"

Hey I was wondering how to install something, or "compile". It always tells me to open some configure script or something, so is there any information about this kind of stuff anywhere? I am using Daryna and it is going very well so far! Although there has been some problems with Resolution and the Mouse.

compiling generally follows this order:

Code: Select all

./configure

then

Code: Select all

make

then

Code: Select all

sudo make install

May be different, most attach a ReadMe file you should read before starting. You should also make sure you have build-essentials installed.. And what trouble do you have with resolution and mouse?

I sorted resolustion out, but I don't know how to build, or do any of the ./configure stuff.

It might be easier if you tell us what you are trying to compile?

GTK 2.x, I dunno, the newest one, and Metacity.

Both GTK and Metacity can be tricky to compile, since they are thoroughly integrated in GNOME, I would suggest starting with something easier... And all documents I could find about it were old posts in Ubuntu forums.

What would you suggest that is easier? I don't know how to build or anything like that, and I don't know where to find help for building and such. Apart from here
